The Great Exodus

The Great Exodus refers to the mass exodus from Earth during the time that solar luminosity and heat becomes so great that life on the surface of the planet cannot continue. The Great Exodus occurs approximately one billion years into the future, but humans remain on moons and space stations of the outer planets until sol goes nova in approximately 5 billion A.D. The resulting shed of the outer layers of the sun destroys all life in the system and all space stations and colonies with the exception of Memory Alpha which survives but drifts undiscovered for 1.3 million years.

Humans eventually colonize a new world and name it Second Earth. The first Earth becomes known as Earth that Was.
